Marketing Magician and get real readers win a national award
When setting up the first Marketing Magician marketing workshops in Portugal last May I had no thoughts that the events would win national recognition and an award. But they did and it’s largely down to get real and the readers that came to the two events at the Hotel Garbe last May.

As anyone who knows me well will explain, I am a firm believer in keeping marketing costs under control, and in the use of the hundreds of free marketing channels available to market any business. It isn’t that I’m against paid-for marketing – in fact I know it to be essential if a business is to thrive. I know that good marketing consists of well structured campaigns that integrate a range of marketing tools; some paid for, some free, some online and some offline.
The problem is that most of my potential clients think that ALL marketing has to be paid for and don’t believe that any form of free marketing can possibly work. So I took on the challenge of marketing my Marketing Masterclasses in Portugal, from my UK office, without spending one single euro. It was done to prove a point, wasn’t without difficulty, isn’t something I would recommend and it would have been easier if I had paid for some of my marketing.

But with help from the Hotel Garbe, get real and the dozens of local businesses that attended the events the point was proved. You can market without spending money. And that brings me back to the recognition on a national level in the UK. E-skills is a UK based organisation that represents employers in the IT industry to the UK government. In its recent Business IT Guide it ran a competition for businesses making use of IT. My Portuguese Marketing Magician campaign was entered (it contained a great deal of Internet based marketing) and won first prize.
So thanks to the Hotel Garbe, get real and all the people who attended the sessions, an external body has recognised that low cost marketing really works.
